The humble hazelnut has one of the oldest and most beloved relationships with chocolate and it all begins with Napoleon. Under Napoleonic rule, the Piedmont region of Italy saw its precious supply of cocoa dwindle until one day, a desperate chocolatier from Turin began to mix what little cocoa he had with locally-grown hazelnuts. E voilà, Gianduja. And from it was born one of the world’s first chocolate candies (Gianduiotto), as well as one of its most popular (Nutella).
But Xocolatti has always dared to innovate, even with the most successful chocolate creations of history. Our take features the crisp and airy texture of whole-roasted Piedmont hazelnuts, caramelized and split, standing like seastacks midst a smooth sea of dark chocolate, a stunningly beautiful contrast to both eye and palate.
